There’s something special about celebrating a major anniversary. And for the Ricci Curbastro family, the 25th anniversary of Rontana is not just a milestone to mark, but a chance to tell the story of a project that, over time, has grown while staying true to itself.
We’re in Brisighella, in the heart of authentic Romagna, among rolling hills and vineyards steeped in history. It was here, in 2000, that Rontana was born from a shared vision between Gualberto Ricci Curbastro and his son Riccardo, together with Daria Costa and Andrea Gaetano. Since then, time has passed, but the original spirit remains unchanged: to enhance the uniqueness of this land, blending family experience with the energy of a new generation.
Today, it’s Gualberto and Filippo—Riccardo’s sons—who lead the winery. After their grandfather’s passing, they decided to carry on the legacy and continue writing this story, with a drive that looks firmly to the future.
And that future is taking concrete shape: Rontana has just inaugurated a brand-new hi-tech winery with a 350-hectoliter capacity, equipped with vitrified concrete and temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. It’s a major step forward, aimed at improving winemaking while becoming more sustainable. No surprise, then, that the company is also set to become fully energy self-sufficient in the coming years thanks to a new photovoltaic system.
But that’s not all. After the drainage works that saved the winery during the May 2023 floods, new grape varieties have been introduced—like Sauvignon Blanc, which gave birth to the 2024 “Zinëstra” Ravenna IGT. A fresh, vibrant wine that speaks the language of today. Rontana now stretches across 16 hectares of vineyards and apple orchards. Alongside its wines, the company also boasts a historic Apple Brandy, recently joined by a bottle-refermented artisanal cider.
All this evolution comes with a new look, too: a complete rebranding, with updated labels, a refreshed website, and a more contemporary communication style, all curated by the Zowart agency.
The 25th anniversary was celebrated with a special tasting led by wine expert Armando Castagno, featuring some of Rontana’s most iconic wines: a vertical of the “Col Mora” Sangiovese—from the 2001 to the 2017 vintages—the Romagna Sangiovese DOC Brisighella 2022, and of course the new “Zinëstra,” already making a name for itself.
At Rontana, the idea of wine blends past, present, and future. With roots firmly planted in Romagna’s soil and an unrelenting desire to innovate—one sip at a time.
