Bererosa Returns to Rome: Rosé Wine Tells the Story of a New Generation of Wine Drinkers

There was a time when rosé wine occupied only a marginal place on wine lists and in conversations among enthusiasts. Today, that is no longer the case. Rosé has earned its own identity, shedding the perception of being merely a middle ground between red and white wine and becoming one of the most contemporary expressions of the wine world. This evolution will take center stage at the fifteenth edition of Bererosa, scheduled for July 2 at the enchanting Villa Appia Antica in Rome.

Surrounded by centuries-old trees, archaeological remains and one of the most evocative settings in the Italian capital, more than 120 labels from across Italy will be featured in a grand tasting event that has become much more than a simple showcase of wines. From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., wine lovers, trade professionals and members of the press will have the opportunity to embark on a journey through Italy’s many interpretations of rosé, discovering territories, grape varieties and production styles that are increasingly distinctive and deeply rooted in their origins.

While the success of the event is well established, what is perhaps even more interesting is the evolution of its audience. Over the years, Bererosa has become a privileged observatory for understanding changing wine consumption habits and the relationship that younger generations are developing with wine.

“For fifteen years we have welcomed thousands of visitors and witnessed a steady increase in the number of attendees under thirty,” says Francesco D’Agostino, Director of Cucina & Vini. The trend comes as little surprise when viewed in an international context. While global wine consumption has been declining, rosé wines have proven more resilient than many other categories, gradually gaining market share that once belonged almost exclusively to red wines.

Yet statistics tell only part of the story. Rosé seems to embody many of the values associated with Generation Z: the search for shared experiences, a more conscious approach to drinking and the desire to enjoy wine primarily as a social experience rather than a purely technical exercise. It is no coincidence that several important Italian appellations are increasingly turning their attention to this category, recognizing both its potential and its growing importance within the market.

In this context, Bererosa continues to play an important role by documenting the evolution of a wine style that has long overcome the prejudices of the past and now offers one of the most compelling perspectives through which to understand the present and future of wine.

Alongside the tastings, visitors will enjoy a carefully curated gastronomic offering designed to complement the wines and encourage conviviality in the open air. Highlights include cured meats from Sei Colli, pizzas from Sfornaio, fried specialties from La Bottega dell’Oliva Ascolana, Vitavigor breadsticks and a selection of extra virgin olive oils presented by Olives Road. Completing the experience will be Cosmic Crisp, offering creative pairings, a dedicated drink list and a series of scenic installations designed to make this celebration of contemporary Italian wine even more memorable.
