The 24th edition of The Best Italian Wines has officially begun, the event that celebrates the winemaking excellence of our country. The opening, held yesterday, kicked off four days of tastings, meetings and in-depth sessions that will enliven the Salone delle Fontane in the EUR district until February 23.
Conceived by Luca Maroni, sensory analyst and author of numerous publications, together with Francesca Romana Maroni, CEO of Sens Eventi, this edition revolves around the theme “At the Root of Pleasure.” Visitors are guided through a multisensory experience discovering the authentic flavors that make wine – and food – a source of pure enjoyment. From sweet and savory to spicy and bitter, the program offers a journey through symbolic ingredients such as chili pepper, honey, salt, citrus fruits, olive oil and roots.
The opening ceremony and the protagonists of Italian wine excellence
The inaugural event was attended by prominent figures from politics and entertainment. On stage, Luca Maroni shone a spotlight on the wineries that stood out over the past year. From renowned names to emerging small producers, the best Italian wines of 2025 – divided into whites, reds, sweet wines and sparkling wines – were awarded for achieving outstanding scores between 96 and 99 points in the official Yearbook.
During the evening, Francesca Romana Maroni also presented two important projects connected to the world of wine and biodiversity:
Somma Sapienza, the wine produced from the grapes of the Vigneto Italia, planted in 2018 within the Botanical Garden Museum of Rome and tasted by guests during the awards ceremony.
Voloorto, a volunteer initiative supported by Sens, aimed at actively involving citizens in protecting the biodiversity of Rome’s Botanical Garden.
Mediterranean rhythms and evocative food-and-wine inspirations made the evening even more engaging, with dance performances bringing to the stage the vibrant traditions of Salento. Through the steps of pizzica and tarantella, the dancers offered the audience an immersive experience that blended the pleasure of wine with that of Mediterranean culture.
With a rich program of tastings, workshops and meetings with leading figures of the sector, The Best Italian Wines 2025 promises to be an unmissable event for enthusiasts and experts in the world of wine.
