Halarà, a Story of Sharing

Yes, we’re talking about wine, but I feel like saying that this is more a story of friendship than a story about wine. The friendship of six producers who, besides sharing holidays, also decided to share a project

I stop by to see Nino, just outside Marsala. It’s hard to “catch” him, as he’s completely absorbed in his rounds in the vineyard, busy collecting grape samples to analyze. So I join him during his various stops, glass in hand, and switch on my camera as soon as I can.

I discover that in this land the Halarà project has come to life, a term easier to translate with the English expression “take it easy” rather than with an Italian word like “calmati” (“calm down”). Also because, rather than calm, in deciding to start this project there must have been enthusiasm and a strong desire to share.

Nino Barraco, Stefano Amerighi, Francesco De Franco, Corrado Dottori, Giovanni Scarfone and Francesco Ferreri are the six creators of a project that is as beautiful as it is—at least from my point of view—difficult to carry forward. But friendship, clearly a deep one, and an equally strong spirit of sharing must have prevailed and given life to Halarà.

An uncomfortable vineyard, clay-rich and very steep. A vineyard where dealing with rain becomes a matter of vital importance. Catarratto and Parpato, an almost extinct grape variety, probably related to Grenache, for three wines bearing the name “Halarà”…
