Grenaches du Monde: the competition “adapts,” but does not stop!

In a period marked by numerous postponements and cancellations, there is one competition whose organizers have managed to devise a formula capable of preserving, even for the upcoming 2021 edition, the values that have characterized previous editions.

Grenaches du Monde will remain an international competition by adopting what could be described as a “distributed competition” format: Italian judges in Italy, Spanish judges in Spain, and so on. The international spirit of the competition is therefore maintained, while also ensuring the safety of participants — now a matter of primary importance.

The choice of locations is also noteworthy. The Marche region will host the Italian session (finally!), Castilla y León the Spanish one, and both Roussillon and Châteauneuf-du-Pape the French sessions. These are particularly fitting locations for this itinerant competition. As stated on the Grenaches du Monde website: “four international settings for four decentralized tastings in four great capitals of Grenache terroir. A true celebration where Grenache takes center stage!”

Registrations are now open for those wishing to take part in the 2021 edition.
The competition features two categories.

The first is open to all wines from around the world (reds, rosés, whites) that carry at least a geographical indication (IGT, DOC, DOCG) and are produced with more than 85% Grenache.

The second category is dedicated to blends and is therefore open to all wines (IGT, DOC, DOCG) produced with more than 51% of the Grenache grape in its various forms: Grenache blanc, gris, or noir, garnatxa, garnacha, cannonau, tai rosso, gamay del Trasimeno, granaccia, bordò, alicante, and lladoner pelut.

Wines for those wishing to participate must be submitted before March 31, 2021.
