Palazzo Brancaccio in Rome Welcomes Lugana: “Timeless Harmonies” Event Sells Out

For one day, Palazzo Brancaccio, in the heart of Rome, became home to Lugana, the iconic wine of Lake Garda. The event “Lugana Armonie Senza Tempo” (Timeless Harmonies) was a sold-out success: over 40 wineries presented more than 100 labels to an audience of 600 wine enthusiasts.

The day opened with a tasting reserved for the press, led by journalist Barbara Politi together with the top representatives of the Lugana DOC Consortium. It was a true journey through the flavors and stories of a region that offers not only wine, but also culture, landscapes, and unique traditions. During the session, producers and experts shared insights into their daily work in the vineyards, their artisanal care, and the passion behind each bottle.

“Timeless Harmonies” is not just a tasting, but an invitation to discover Lake Garda as a travel destination: from sunset tastings among the vines to vineyard walks, bike tours, open-air yoga, and wine spas, the region offers authentic experiences for those seeking relaxation and well-being in close contact with nature.

Lugana originates from a unique corner of Italy, straddling the regions of Veneto and Lombardy, where Lake Garda’s special microclimate and the native Turbiana grape give life to a fresh, elegant, and versatile white wine. Today, the Consortium includes 214 members, producing 28 million bottles with a strong international presence—more than 60% of production is exported, particularly to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

One of Lugana’s most fascinating features is its remarkable aging potential: while young, it impresses with its freshness, elegance, and immediacy, but over time it develops complex aromas, mineral notes, hints of honey, candied citrus, and spices, always maintaining great finesse. It’s a white wine that continues to surprise even after years of aging, showing an uncommon longevity for this style.

In 2023, the appellation saw growth not only in production but also in quality and sustainability efforts: 60% of the vineyards are already certified or in organic conversion. With over 25 million tourist visits each year, Lugana continues to serve as an ambassador of a lifestyle defined by beauty, slow living, and a taste for life’s simple pleasures.

We spoke about it with Fabio Zenato, President of the Lugana DOC Protection Consortium.
