Sharing a tasting with Tiziana Foschi and Roberto Ciufoli is something I wish for everyone. The two of them are so close, so in sync, and so genuinely engaging that the atmosphere becomes immediately convivial and fun.
Roberto keeps pretending otherwise, but he actually knows a great deal about wine. Tiziana may not technically be a sommelier, yet she leads the group while also letting herself be guided—always ready, glass in hand. Luckily, for today’s gathering I invited two “pros” like Carlotta Salvini and Luca Matarazzo—people who could practically X-ray the wine in their glass 🙂 yet who happily surrendered to the mood created by Tiziana and Roberto.
Then there’s Damiano Ciolli and his Cesanese di Olevano. A territory long devoted to this grape, but one that Damiano and Letizia Ciolli have reinterpreted in their own way. Volcanic soils, meticulous care from vineyard to cellar, and above all a strong desire to craft a Cesanese that presents itself in a more direct, immediate way. A wine that now consistently earns recognition from industry professionals—and that easily won over everyone at this tasting as well.
How did the day end? Inevitably—with an invitation to the winery!
