Is there a way to “get an idea” of what the Brunello di Montalcino 2018 will be like, the one we will find on the market next January? Yes, there is a way. You can go to “Benvenuto Brunello“, sit at the table and “get a good idea” by tasting the wines of 137 wineries, from Rosso di Montalcino, to Brunello, to the Riservas (in this case 2017).
A unique opportunity to breathe the air of Montalcino, the organization of the Chiostro – which among other things hosts a wonderful museum – and let yourself be involved in what I feel like defining as an “exciting tasting”.
In these days I see many articles telling about Benvenuto Brunello 2022. Some talk about the 2018 vintage and its difficulties, some about their best tastings, some are attentive to finding the correct definition to describe this 2018.
“Refined”, “slender”, “thin”, “elegant”, “fresh”.
Can I not sit at the table with the curiosity of a child? A different edition, brought forward to November, with table service and the curiosity to begin this close encounter with the 2018 vintage. Certainly a different vintage that, as far as my personal perception is concerned, differs from the “usual idea” of Brunello.
A vintage different from the others, but which in my opinion the producers managed to interpret convincingly. So, to make it short, I confirm the freshness, the not excessive structure, the ease of the sip and the beautiful elegance of this Brunello 2018. Nothing to do with the “more important vintages”, but I did not dislike this experience at all.
Benvenuto Brunello, even if in “table service” mode, keeps its charm and is undoubtedly a unique opportunity to come into contact with the vintage that is about to enter the market. I suffer a little from the fact of already knowing what I have in the glass (by now the sheet of foil around the bottle is a must even in dinners with friends) but fortunately my friend Paolo Valentini of Vinodabere.it, directing the management of the flow of requests made by our table, also this time prevented me from knowing what I had in the glass…
However I still remain with a curiosity, that of the next meeting with the friends of Vinodabere.it. A meeting in which we compare, blind, the current vintage with the one about to be put on the market. What will come out from our evaluations? Are we really sure of the defeat of 2018? I am not at all sure.
My best tastings?
No, please, that is an activity that others do better than me. For example, in this article.
Instead, we share impressions on this edition and on future initiatives with Fabrizio Bindocci, President of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino.
