Calabria’s wines win over Rome: at Palazzo Ripetta a journey through enological stories and future perspectives

Over 250 industry professionals discovered 96 wines in a tasting tour that crossed the wine territories of the entire region. The Calabria Region opens 2026 in the Capital under the banner of its history, its grape varieties, and an increasingly conscious enological vision. Palazzo Ripetta hosted “Calabria: History in the Glass”, the event that brought together more than 250 trade professionals to discover 96 wines telling the story of a region in constant evolution.

The labels, selected by ARSAC, outlined a true mosaic spanning the entire region: from Cirò to the Cosenza area and down to Locride, the tasting offered a faithful snapshot of Calabria’s production diversity.

Indigenous grape varieties took center stage: from Gaglioppo and Magliocco, the cornerstones of Calabrian reds, to whites such as Mantonico, Pecorello, Greco Bianco, and Zibibbo, also presented in sparkling and passito versions. A journey between coast and inland areas, capable of expressing the many souls of Calabrian wine, which generated strong interest among the Roman trade. Rome, in fact, represents a particularly attentive market for Calabrian wines and once again proved to be an open and curious hub, ready to welcome with enthusiasm a production that blends deep-rooted traditions with a contemporary approach.

“The Rome meeting was truly important,” emphasized Gianluca Gallo, Regional Councillor for Agriculture of Calabria, “as it allowed us to strengthen dialogue and strategic relationships with professionals who play a key role in spreading and promoting knowledge of our products within what is, in terms of numbers, the country’s main reference market. This event marks a starting point: we are already working on defining the final activities of the 2026 calendar, which will see us present at the main industry events both nationally and internationally, as well as protagonists of further opportunities to meet the trade, continuing to promote the recognizable and distinctive identity that represents the true added value of our wines.”

Alongside the wines, the spotlight also shone on regional gastronomic identity, with pairings curated by Calabrian chef Federica Di Lieto. Traditional cured meats, aged cheeses, local figs, citron, bergamot, and many other agri-food excellences highlighted the strong character of Calabria’s culinary heritage.
