I study in Florence, and I couldn’t miss the chance to stop by the event “Saranno famosi nel vino”, now in its second edition, whose aim is to shine a spotlight on young wineries and the new releases presented by the participating producers.
We are at the Stazione Leopolda, and even though I have a train waiting for me to return to Rome, I cannot miss this event, both to satisfy my curiosity and to attend the masterclass “I vini del cuore”, organized by someone I would certainly define as a friend, as well as an established professional in the wine world, Olga Sofia Schiaffino.
The first impression at the entrance is pleasant. Besides wine, present with a large number of tasting tables, there is also a good presence of gin producers but, this time, I have to focus on something else.
It is 2:30 pm and the masterclass is beginning.
A session organized in two clearly distinct moments. One dedicated to the psychological/psychiatric dimension, in which it was analyzed, at a biological level, what causes emotions and what emotions actually are (a topic masterfully addressed by Olga, as she is a psychiatrist); the other dedicated to the tasting of some of the wines included in this year’s Guida del cuore. A tasting that involved both the producers and the authors of the guide who had selected them.
Personally, I consider this masterclass, with complete sincerity and fully aware that words carry weight, as one of the most engaging and interesting I have ever attended. A masterclass made of fluid, interesting topics, never verbose nor reductive. A “different” approach, capable of evaluating wine not only for its taste but also for what it is able to evoke.
And then a tasting absolutely up to the task, capable (as it should be) of generating the promised emotions.
I am sure I will take part in other events of Vini del Cuore, but more than “events” I would prefer to call them a “journey”. A journey in which technical analysis is not predominant, but rather is excellently integrated with the attention given to the emotions that a wine can evoke.
