The Bubbles of Scacciadiavoli

Now you just need to make a sparkling wine!…” This was the spark that in 2005 triggered the desire—almost a bet—to think about producing a traditional method sparkling wine based on Sagrantino.

A bet that required study and the adaptation of production processes. But a bet that has led Scacciadiavoli to become, to this day, the only producer of a traditional method sparkling wine with this grape variety, which is better known for its structure, power and tannins and is hardly “imaginable” as a sparkling wine in the glass.

Undoubtedly a wine that does not hide its character. A tannin that tries to remind us of its presence, but—in my opinion—an interesting bubble, starting from the Brut version, with its 36 months on the lees and the immediacy of a wine ready to accompany an aperitif or to open a fish-based lunch.

There is also a Rosé version, 24 months on the lees, 100% Sagrantino. A wine that expresses even more fully all the typical aromas of Sagrantino, to the point that we might also imagine this traditional method paired with something more substantial such as white meats or even cheese.

But the journey of Scacciadiavoli and its traditional method has gone even further. There is also a Pas Dosé version left on the lees for 10 years. A show of strength that expresses its character wonderfully in the glass, with the yeasts leaving their mark and a structure decidedly different from the two base wines.

A winery that has been producing wine since 1884. More than a hundred years of history that can easily be felt while walking through the Scacciadiavoli cellar…
