Shared Tastings: “Jo” by Gianfranco Fino

“Es”, “Jo” — the names of Gianfranco Fino’s wines are short, but wonderfully long in the way they unfold on the palate. For this shared tasting, Gianfranco chose, for a moment, to set aside his celebrated “Es” and let us experience “Jo.”

“Jo” stands for “Ionico”, a way of identifying both its geographical origin and one of the great native grape varieties of Salento: Negroamaro.

It is a wine that managed to win everyone over — both the “experts,” such as Daniele Moroni of Vinodabere.it and Carlo Dugo, the Italian representative of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, and the more “artistic” side of the group, with Massimo Romeo Piparo and Lillo, who were caught more than once refilling their glasses.

It was yet another opportunity to spend a pleasant afternoon together with a wonderful group, a great red wine that beautifully expresses a territory close to my heart, the kindness of Gianfranco Fino, and… Lillo, who by the third glass had begun to detect notes of “tree bark” in the wine. 🙂

Until next time!
