Rye and Bourbon: American whiskey lands in Rome.

We’re talking about American whiskey — or rather whiskey, in this case — with Stefano Albano of Vero Vine & Spirits, on the occasion of the presentation event for their catalog of American Rye Whiskey and Bourbon Whiskey.

This catalog is the result of extensive, in‑depth research carried out in the United States in search of small artisanal distilleries, mainly in Texas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Washington, and New York — all characterized by small production volumes but strong, well‑defined identities.

Tasting around thirty whiskeys wasn’t easy, but at the same time it was extremely interesting — at least for us — to engage with a different type of whiskey (not Scotch whisky, of course…) and its various expressions.

If I had to pick my favorites from the group, I would mention the three products from The Block Distilling Co., a distillery based in Colorado that collaborates with a family of farmers in Missouri who supply them with 70% of the grain they use:
Four Grain Straight, Night Sweats Straight, and Night Sweats Straight Bottled in Bond.
