Finally, Marche. And finally I managed to involve Cesare Bocci in the tasting of a wine from his own land… and what a wine it is.
I must confess that I have developed a small infatuation with what I like to call the “Bordò” of the Marche. Of course, technically the name Bordò still cannot officially be used — but I enjoy calling them that, and so I do.
This Grenache, Cinabro from Le Caniette, is the result of the work of nine producers from the Marche.
Very few bottles are available, but we managed to get one onto our table.
How many people really know this wine? Joining us for the tasting were Cesare Bocci, Massimo Romeo Piparo, Leonardo Romanelli, Maurizio Valeriani, and Giovanni Vagnoni, the true architect behind this small masterpiece.
It was a wonderful surprise for everyone. For Leonardo, for the two uncompromising red-wine lovers Cesare Bocci and Massimo Romeo Piparo, and a confirmation for Maurizio Valeriani and myself, now fully immersed in the world of Grenache thanks to the Grenaches du Monde competition.
It was an afternoon in which the wine held everyone’s attention from beginning to end: from its quality to the curiosity surrounding its very limited production, from the debate over the name to the fine example of collaboration shown by the nine Marche producers.
If you ever come across one of these bottles, please — don’t let it slip away.
