Shared Tastings: “Chiusa di Pannone” by Filippo Antonelli

It’s easy to talk about “sharing” when you realize that everyone in the group of guests already knows each other — and everyone knows the producer as well.

Perhaps it’s because we are in Umbria, a region that draws you in with the beauty of its landscapes, its food and its wines.
Or perhaps it’s because visiting Filippo Antonelli in Montefalco immediately immerses you in a setting made of history, great products and genuine hospitality.

Today’s group is what I affectionately call a gathering of “serial drinkers.” It’s hard to compete with Maurizio Valeriani, Gianmarco Nulli Gennari, and Marco Sciarrini — companions of many occasions — when the conversation turns to wine. Fortunately, I also had Cesare Bocci by my side, who keeps insisting that he “knows nothing about wine,” though that claim is becoming less and less believable given how precise and knowledgeable his comments are becoming, glass in hand.

If you ever happen to pass through Montefalco, make a small detour and stop by Filippo Antonelli’s winery.
You will find a wonderful place, a warm welcome and a truly interesting wine experience.

What else can be said about this gathering? We talked about Umbria, its history, Montefalco, and Sagrantino from every possible angle.

We ended — unsurprisingly — by setting up a future visit to the winery. Though, dear Filippo, when such a proposal comes from a group like today’s, it sounds less like a polite visit and more like a friendly attempt to storm your cellar. 🙂
