Contesa’s Abruzzo

We are in Collecorvino, in the province of Pescara, at 250 meters above sea level, in a territory positioned halfway between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso.

This is an area characterized by significant temperature variations between day and night, conditions that make it particularly suited to the production of white wines—notably Pecorino, Passerina, and with particular attention given to the enhancement of Trebbiano Abruzzese.

Franco Pasetto represents the third generation of a family for whom respect for the territory is one of the winery’s key priorities. Franco is keen to highlight the adoption of an organic approach to viticulture, based on what he describes as “de facto organic practices.”

Alongside the white wines, we of course find the inevitable Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, expressed both in its classic version and in a Riserva, aged for 30 months in Slavonian oak casks followed by six months in bottle. There is also a Cru with the evocative name “Chiedi alla polvere” (Ask the Dust), a red wine of strong character, also aged for 30 months in oak casks.

We arrived at the end of the day a little tired—but it was definitely worth it
