9 Days of Guides with Vinodabere.it

It is in the province of Trapani, just a step away from Marsala and Mazara del Vallo, in that part of Sicily capable of always surprising you, where we find the winery of Giacomo Funaro. A winery that I had the opportunity to visit. However, I prefer to talk about “people” and sensations rather than about a company. When you arrive in Santa Ninfa, in fact, you are almost forced to relax. The terrace, Giacomo’s wine, the pleasure of conversation…. “Shall we make a video?” was the question I asked Giacomo the last time. “Come on, no… we’re fine like this….” was his answer. And indeed we were fine, and we didn’t make the video.

It is exactly the same feeling I experienced again yesterday when meeting Giacomo. That pleasant sensation where it feels like you are talking to a family member, someone you feel you have known forever and who, when he starts talking about wine and his work, does so with a lightness that continues to put you at ease.

Yes, for me people definitely come before things, and even before wine. But we are on wining.it and I cannot avoid talking at least about what I had the chance to taste.

I have no hesitation in taking a clear position and saying that his new Zibibbo made an impression.
Spontaneous fermentation, maceration on the skins and 6 months on the lees after fermentation. Unfiltered.
Yes, it’s true, I do lean toward this type of wine. Aromatic, savory, “essential” enough to make me want it again during my summer evenings.

Giacomo does not like to define it as a natural wine. For him, who has made eco-sustainability a fundamental value for his winery, this new line (which also includes Perricone and Inzolia) is simply the expression of another way he thinks about wine.
