On December 13 and 14, the Hotel Belstay hosts once again the event dedicated to the “small continent” of wine, featuring tastings, masterclasses and a sensory journey through all the island’s identities.
Maurizio Valeriani: “Rome waits for it every year, and finally Sardinian wines are increasingly present on restaurant wine lists.”
Sardinia is preparing to conquer Rome once again. On Saturday, December 13 and Sunday, December 14, 2025, La Sardegna di Vinodabere returns for its fourth edition, an event that has now become a point of reference for enthusiasts, professionals and curious wine lovers eager to explore the depth, diversity and identity of the island’s wine heritage.
Hosted at the Hotel Belstay (Via Bogliasco 27), the event will feature over 40 wineries and more than 200 wines for tasting: a journey through unique territories — Gallura, Mamoiada, Mandrolisai, Ogliastra, Orgosolo, Sulcis and many others — confirming Sardinia as a true wine mosaic. A richness that, as Vinodabere, the event’s promoter, recalls, has long been at the heart of its storytelling: from communication activities to major events, up to the Guide to the Best Wines of Sardinia, which in its latest edition surpassed 500,000 online views.
In our video interview, Maurizio Valeriani, director of Vinodabere.it, explains the spirit of this fourth edition: “This year again there are great new features. Some wineries are new compared to previous years, and the route embraces the whole of Sardinia: from Gallura to Mandrolisai, from Mamoiada to Ogliastra. It’s a virtual journey across the island, thanks to wines that mainly come from native grape varieties and through direct encounters with the protagonists.” Rome, Valeriani underlines, has embraced the event enthusiastically: “Everyone looks forward to it — press, trade professionals, enthusiasts. It has become an annual appointment that no one wants to miss.”
When asked which appellations deserve special attention, Valeriani replies: “It’s like asking a father which child he prefers. My advice? Taste everything. There are more than 200 wines: to manage it, our method is simple… spit! Then choose the ones you want to swallow calmly.”
A crucial topic concerns the presence of Sardinian wines in Rome: “For a long time, Sardinia’s problem was communication. If you don’t communicate, the wine doesn’t leave the island. But finally, we see the light: in recent years the communication movement has grown, and today you can find a few more Sardinian bottles on Roman wine lists.”
The event is open to a wide audience: “From 2 pm to 4 pm on Saturday it is reserved for trade professionals, sommeliers and press. From 4 pm to 8 pm, and throughout Sunday, it is open to everyone.” Regarding the venue, he adds: “The Belstay is very easy to reach, just outside Rome on the Aurelia road, with hotel parking available. We are only 4 km from St. Peter’s: not central, but very close.” Among the most anticipated moments is the masterclass on Saturday, December 13 (11:30 am–12:45 pm), led by oenologist Andrea Pala and critics Dario Cappelloni, Raffaele Mosca and Maurizio Valeriani himself: a sensory journey through Gallura, Coros and Southern Sardinia offering a technical and contemporary interpretation of the island’s viticulture.
The program continues with tasting tables: Saturday, December 13 from 2 pm to 4 pm reserved for trade professionals, press and ONAV sommeliers; from 4 pm to 8 pm open to the public. Sunday, December 14 from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm open access for all, with a tasting kit priced at €35 (€25 for ONAV members). The main sponsor of the event is the Consortium for the Protection of Pecorino Romano Cheese, with Acqua Smeraldina as technical sponsor.
La Sardegna di Vinodabere is not just an extensive tasting event, but an opportunity to meet winemakers, discover their territories and understand the extraordinary wine diversity of an island that never ceases to surprise. For information, the list of wineries and updates: www.vinodabere.it
