Sparkle 2023: Italy’s Best Sparkling Wines Take Center Stage in Rome

The best dry sparkling wines will take center stage on Saturday the 26th at the Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa.
A total of 89 wines have been awarded the “5 sfere” by the twenty-first edition of the guide to the best Italian dry sparkling wines published by Cucina&Vini.

Lombardy leads with 28 awarded wines, followed by Trentino with 22, Veneto with 19, Piedmont with 7, Alto Adige with 5, Puglia, Lazio and Abruzzo with 2, and Valle d’Aosta and Umbria with 1.

The more than 150 labels available for tasting make Sparkle 2023 a unique opportunity for lovers of fine drinking.

From 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm the elegant halls of the Parco dei Principi will host an exciting tasting with over 150 great Italian dry sparkling wines, among those featured in the guide.

The conclusion of the work for the twenty-first edition of our guide prompts, as always, a reflection on the balance of a season. After more than one thousand five hundred tastings – underlines Francesco D’Agostino, Director of Cucina&Vini – the most effective summary takes place at the moment of the final tasting, when the best expressions of the country meet and we define the 5 sfere. The level of Italian sparkling wines is truly extremely high, so much so that it requires great concentration to define the top wines. Many highlight the incredible quantitative increase that has led our country to a production, from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022, of one billion one hundred and twenty million bottles, marking an increase of more than 13% compared to the same period between 2020 and 2021 (Icqrf data). However, we prefer to emphasize how the bar has risen from a qualitative point of view, and this not only in the classic territories.

The appointment is for Saturday, November 26, 2023.
After the presentation of the guide and the related awards ceremony, in an event reserved for press and industry professionals. At 4:00 pm, and until 10:00 pm, the halls of the Parco dei Principi will open their doors to begin Sparkleday and its tasting tables.

There are four sponsors this year: Diam, a leading brand in the production of cork stoppers present since the first editions of the event; Owens-Illinois, the American multinational that is currently the largest producer of glass containers in the world; and for the food part Muzzi, the Umbrian confectionery company that since 1795 has been a leader in pastry production, and Veroni, the historic Emilian company that for almost 100 years has produced high-quality cured meats, present at Sparkleday with a 100 kg mortadella.
