Horti

In the heart of Pavia, overlooking the banks of the Ticino River, lies Horti, an urban and human regeneration project inaugurated in 2022. Created by Almo Collegio Borromeo, the project has given the city a 35,000-square-metre green space that once contained vegetable gardens and orchards used to feed the College’s students. After its agricultural role came to an end, the area fell into neglect. It has since been brought back to life through a major urban and environmental regeneration initiative, conceived above all as a means of renewing lives and communities. Today, Horti is a public park where nature, contemporary art and social engagement coexist in harmony, placing beauty at the service of the common good.

A Park to Explore
A walk through Horti is a journey through different natural habitats, biodiversity and history. Wildflower meadows, trees and spaces dedicated to wildlife and natural growth alternate with contemporary artworks, the archaeological remains of the Church of San Marco in Monte Bertone, and areas designed for gatherings, workshops and cultural events.

Art as an Experience
Contemporary art accompanies visitors throughout the park. Permanent installations and site-specific works enter into dialogue with the landscape. Featured artists include Maria Cristina Carlini, Alik Cavaliere, Gianfranco Pardi, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Mauro Staccioli, Ivan Tresoldi and David Tremlett. By 2028, the route will be enriched by new works by Emilio Isgrò, Mimmo Paladino, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Edoardo Tresoldi.

Make Room at the Table for One More Friend
Horti Bistrò is housed in the park’s seventeenth-century farmhouse. It is a place to stop for lunch, dinner or a coffee, but above all it is a social inclusion initiative where work offers opportunities for training and a fresh start. Here, a school dedicated to the art of hospitality trains people with mental health disabilities and prisoners eligible for work-release and reintegration programmes under Article 21 of Italian prison legislation, equipping them with professional skills in restaurant service and hospitality.

Alongside a menu showcasing local specialities from the Pavia area, Horti Bistrò hosts book launches, live music, slam poetry competitions, book clubs, community lunches and numerous cultural initiatives. A lively destination throughout the year, it has become a meeting place for local residents, students and visitors, who find here a genuine home for the community.

Cinquesensi

Cinquesensi Editore explores the connection between culture, art and taste through editorial projects that interpret the contemporary world from an original perspective. With the volume "A Tavola con l’Arte. Italia", it investigates the dialogue between fine dining, cultural venues and the new patronage of wine, creating a journey through territories, wineries, museums and places of hospitality.

A journey through Italy celebrating beauty and taste. Ilaria Guidantoni and Antonio Paolini have mapped more than 300 extraordinary destinations across all 20 Italian regions, from major cities to the most hidden villages, following three different paths: “Cuisine in Places of Art”, where museums and historic villas open their doors to dining; “Art at the Table”, featuring trattorias and restaurants that have embraced the language of art in both their cuisine and interiors; and “Art in the Glass”, exploring wineries designed by leading architects and vineyards in dialogue with art installations. A practical, richly illustrated guide for those who seek out and appreciate the many expressions of Italian creativity and style.

Marchesi Antinori

To call it a winery is a useful simplification, one that identifies its primary purpose, yet in reality its role extends into other realms, both in terms of winemaking and in the symbolic expression of a genius loci shaped over more than six centuries of family and Florentine history.
