Territories, traditions and excellence in one shared story.
Lazio is a region of diverse identities, landscapes that change within just a few kilometres, and agricultural and gastronomic traditions that preserve centuries of history. An extraordinary heritage in which wine, food and local products represent far more than outstanding examples of quality: they are authentic expressions of the culture and communities from which they originate.
This is the vision behind Lazio Roots, a project that brings together territories, producers and people to create a shared narrative of the region’s food and wine identity.
Five Consortia, One Shared Vision
Lazio Roots is the result of a collaboration between five leading organisations representing Lazio’s agricultural and wine sectors: the Roma DOC Wine Protection Consortium, the Frascati Wine Appellations Protection Consortium, the Cesanese del Piglio DOCG Consortium, the Abbacchio Romano IGP Consortium and the Ricotta Romana DOP Consortium.
The initiative brings together 550 wine-producing businesses and 413 livestock farmers, uniting different areas of expertise around a common goal: to promote protected designations not simply as guarantees of quality, but as expressions of an agricultural, cultural and social heritage deeply rooted in the region.
Supported by the Lazio Regional Government and ARSIAL, the project recognises cooperation between production sectors as a strategic means of strengthening the competitiveness and visibility of regional products.
One Region, Many Identities
From the Castelli Romani to Ciociaria, from Tuscia to Sabina, and from the Roman countryside to the coast, Lazio Roots offers a journey through the many facets of a region whose diversity is one of its greatest strengths.
Wine tells the story of vineyards and the communities that cultivate them. Dairy and pastoral traditions reveal the enduring importance of practices such as transhumance, while local agricultural products embody a wealth of knowledge, skills and craftsmanship passed down through generations.
Together, these elements form a mosaic encompassing more than twenty of Lazio’s most representative products, reflecting a broader commitment to promoting the region’s entire food and agricultural heritage.
The Strength of Working Together
The true strength of Lazio Roots lies in its ability to move beyond individual appellations and protected designations to build a collective identity.
Rather than promoting products in isolation, the project seeks to connect stories, introduce people to places and celebrate the communities behind them.
It is a forward-looking vision that remains firmly connected to the past, rooted in the belief that the quality of local products cannot be separated from the culture of their places of origin and the people whose work brings them to life.
